The Solar System : Our Solar System is centered around the Sun. Nine planets i.e. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. These revolve in elliptical orbits around the Sun. In Vedic Asrtrology Uranus, Neptune and Pluto find no place. On the other hand classics recognise Moon and two shadowy points known as Rahu and Ketu which are the Moon,s nodes as equivalent to the planets. Planets Mercury and Venus orbit in space between Sun and Earth, and are known as inner planets. Mars, Jupiter and Saturn whose orbits are on outer side of Sun are known as Outer Planets.
Zodiac : The Suns annual path is known as elliptic. The belt of heavens extending 8 degrees on either side of the elliptic is known as the Zodiac. It is divided into 12 equal parts of 30 degrees each which are called
Zodiac signs. These are :- Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Saggitarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. Each sign is ruled by a planet. Different signs have different characterstics which play an important role in delineation of astrological charts.
Constellations :- Entire Zodiac has been divided into 27 parts of equal degrees known as Constellation. Every constellation has been assigned a planetary ruler. Ketu is the ruler of first constellation staring from 0 degrees of Aries and then the rulership of Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury follows in this sequence till the end of sign
Cancer. The same sequence starts from 0 degree Leo and Saggitarius and continues till
Scropio and Pisces end respectively.
